The officers of the Public Services Committee (PSC) of the Irish Congress of trade Unions (ICTU) met with affiliate and non-affiliated unions and associations this morning to provide an update on the public service pay talks, which adjourned at 3am this morning. The MLSA is pleased to announce the Cyril Keogh Academic Bursary awards for 2023. In early 2023 prior to the close of applications, the Executive Committee reviewed the scheme and increased the total number of bursaries available to sixteen, an increase of four or 33%. The Executive Committee also retained discretion to increase the number of awards further in any given year.

The long-awaited Medical Scientist Grade Assessment Report by Conal Devine was finally published today and has been emailed to all MLSA members with a cover letter from MLSA Chairperson Kevin O'Boyle. The full report, Kevin's letter and the MLSA submissions to the assessor are available in the Member Updates section of the Members' Area. Members are asked to read the entire report.
The Executive Committee will meet with MLSA agents on Thursday 26th January for a preliminary review of the report ahead of meeting with the employer side.

The MLSA and staff panel of healthcare unions have been in discussions with the HSE throughout the Christmas period and into January about the current extreme pressures in acute hospitals. The unions have sought proper local and national engagement on any changes to services. The incoming MLSA Executive Committee for 2022-2023 met for the first time on 9th November and elected its officers. Kevin O’Boyle was re-elected as Chairperson, Mairead Ní Mhuimhneacháin was elected as Deputy Chairperson, Hugh O’Byrne was elected as Treasurer and Esther McCormack was elected as Honorary Secretary.

Over 120 MLSA members attended the 62nd MLSA AGM in person on Saturday 8th October in the Galmont Hotel, Galway, with another 120 viewing proceedings on-line. Thank you to all members who attended and in particular to those who put forward motions and those who contributed to what was an excellent debate on the issues, The results of the motions debate were sent by email to all members today and are available in the Members' Area of the website.
