In 2016 the MLSA published a position paper with the Academy of Clinical Sciences and Laboratory Medicine (ACSLM) on the development of Advanced Practice (AP) Roles and Extended Practice for Medical Scientist Grades in Ireland.
The Report reviews AP role development within pathology laboratories internationally and provides analysis of the organic development of several AP type roles in Ireland over the past 20 years.
The paper calls for a formalised unified career structure for all scientific grades in Irish public hospital laboratories.
