The 2001 Expert Group Report on Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologist Grades changed the name of the profession to Medical Scientist and recommended pay parity with clinical biochemsits as a first necessary step to a unified career structure.
Unfortunately, as an unintended consequence of the Public Service benchmarking process in 2002, pay parity was lost almost as soon as it had been awarded and the MLSA has been seeking its resoration ever since.
